Understanding & copying things

Even though he's able to say quite a few english words, his understanding is much better. For example, he's able to identify his body parts: his eyes, head, hair, ears, cheek, chin, butt, and his belly button. He's also starting to understand the difference between his right and left hands and feet.

He also likes to brush his teeth. Before going to bed he knows that he's to brush his teeth first. He grabs his toothbrush & toothpaste, pretends to put some toothpaste on the brush and then he starts brushing his teeth. We do put his toothpaste on his toothbrush afterwards.

He's able to drink on his own using normal cups. He's graduated off his sippy. He holds the cup with both hands, and drinks. And the best part, he wipes his mouth dry with his bip. I guess we did it enough that he's starting to pick up things on his own now.

Same with eating, he tries to feed himself. Slowly he's starting to accept unblended food. Before this he would always spit out whatever is not blended, but we've noticed that he's starting to be less fussy about it.

I can't believe that it's already been 17 months since he was born. I remember how tough it was in the beginning, now it's starting to get easy. I like how all we have to do now is give him his milk bottle to hold on his own... But I'm sure there's more challenges to come. ... sigh...

First haircut

Chocho finally grew long enough hair that we had to give him a haircut for the first time. We gave him a quick trim by the ears before, but this time he had to have his hair trimmed all around, except the front. So Mike gave him a haircut & Chocho even tipped him at the end. =)

Happy Birthday Daddah!

We celebrated Mike's 30th recently, and we had cake. Chocho is too cool for the party hat, though!

The many faces of Nicholas Ho

Yep, these are pretty much the different faces he makes. I love how he puckers up when ready to kiss.

Chocho & Dadda

Chocho loves to copy whatever we do. When he sees me practice yoga, he tries to join in. He likes to do the downward dog. =) Whenever he sees us on the laptop, he always wants to join in. Even though we bought him a baby laptop, he wants the real deal. So he takes over my spot and uses my laptop.

He also loves to hang out with his dad. Here they are watching tv together.

What could he be dreaming about?

I often wonder if babies dream and if they do what they would be dreaming about? There was one morning when we needed to get out of the house extra early. Chocho just wouldn't wake up. We talked to him, we pulled his blanket, we turned him, and pat his bum and everything else, but he still wouldn't wake up! Sometimes he would even sleep in. Though he does go to sleep kinda late (10.30, 11, or even mid-night). I just can't believe how I used to be afraid of waking him up when he was an infant, now I cannot wake him up. He eventually woke up that morning, only because we picked him up, took his pants & his diaper off, and washed his butt. It was not a pretty sight. He was mad. I guess I would be, too.

Starting to speak some English words

Chocho has now been picking up some real english words. He's been speaking all this time since last August when we came back from our trip. He was about 10months then. But he's only been speaking in his own language. Some say that he could pass as a Vietnamese, since his language has that accent, I guess. But lately he's been able to pick up real words. His vocab today consists of words such as "ball", "elmo", "apple", "juice", "uhm" (when he wants to eat), "dada", "mama", "uh-oh", "susu" (milk, in Indonesian), "nana" (for banana), "up", "bee", "buzz" (the noise bees make), "ah-wo?" (Hallo, when he's on the phone), and "bye" as well as "bub-bye". We can't wait till he starts speaking in full sentences. =)

Potty Time

It has been a while since I last blogged, and next thing I knew, Chocho seems to be ready for potty time.

He already knows to tell us when he's got poop in his diaper. He gets our attention and taps on his diaper. Then he bends forward & takes a sniff and then rubs his nose (as in it's stinky!). So we now know whenever he's got a dirty diaper. We also know when he's about to poop. His face would change. He'd be more focused, his face turns red, and he makes pushing sounds. So whenever we see this, we always pick him up and run to the toilet. Hopefully his grandparents would be able to help train him during the day.
